Show details :
From the dark days of the 1984-5 British miners’ strike, comes a glimpse of hope, a candle of success held against a backdrop of inevitable failure and bitter defeat. Billy Elliot is the son and younger brother of striking miners in County Durham, where his only escape from a seemingly pointless education and a politically charged and volatile family life, is his boxing class, which he hates.
Luckily for Billy, he is held back after a particularly disappointing boxing lesson and discovers the ballet class next door where he finds freedom, meaning and expression. In this Billy Elliot theatre break, you will see the juxtaposition of Billy’s talented dance with the demise of the community around him and how he struggles to find fulfilment through rising tensions within his family and the society around him.
