Show details :
The Woman in Black is the 2nd longest running play in West End history for a reason. It is a terrifying ghost story filled with twists and thrills, darkness and fog, and what can only be described as a chilling atmosphere. The main character, with the help of his assistant, is acting out events from his past, and discovers more than he bargained for.
The play within a play follows Arthur Kipps, a solicitor called to set in order the affairs of a recently deceased widow, as he arrives at a rural village and begins to investigate the mysteries of his assigned case. The show is acted superbly by two cast members onstage, with the help of a handful more behind the scenes to create the most adrenaline-charged experiences in the West End.
What to expect :
With a Woman in Black theatre break, you are to expect jumps, screams and fear at the delightfully intimate Fortune Theatre, the show’s home for 24 years. A foggy, eerie atmosphere will greet you as the curtain lifts and you are transported back in time to a disserted Victorian theatre, from where the mesmerizing actors will pull you into the mysterious affairs of the Eel Marsh House. Be prepared to be scared.
Once you have left this spine-tingling show you will be longing for comfort and safety. Luckily our theatre breaks allow you to book exceptional hotels in the heart of London, meaning that you will be in walking distance of not just safety and comfort, but style and luxury too. Booking a Woman in Black theatre break gives you excitement, indulgence and great value.
Reviews :
“Still casts its delicious spell of malevolence and menace” Time Out
“This is a fantastically phantom-filled night out” What’s On Stage
“Dazzling writing and perfect timing from the actors drawing you towards the coldest chill in London theatre” Theatremonkey
Interesting facts :
- The show was created when a Scarborough theatre needed a last minute Christmas ghost story and resident playwright Stephen Mallatratt transformed Susan Hill’s book into a hugely successful play
- Two years later it transferred to the Fortune Theatre and has stayed there ever since
- Woman in Black is famous for only having two onstage actors (but beware the offstage actors!)
