Set in the quiet Sicilian countryside of 1916, a community of women shell almonds for the local ageing landowner, Simone. Yet Simone is without an heir, and the only one who seems able to produce a child is the prolific Liolà, who has three children by three different women, all dutifully raised by his mother.
But when Liolà gets another girl, Tuzza, pregnant, her mother decides to claim that Simone is the father – and Simone is more than happy to gain a child in return for his estate. Though he may be carefree and promiscuous, Liolà is far from a bad father. Incensed, he decides to intervene.
Originally written by Luigi Pirandello, translated and adapted by Tanya Ronder and directed by Richard Eyre, Liola theatre breaks will transport you to the rural reverie of Sicily for a play about fatherhood, family, appearance and reality.
Liola theatre breaks will take you to one of Britain’s foremost theatrical institutions, the National Theatre, to see a unique play within Pirandello’s composition. A charming rustic comedy, Liola theatre breaks will involve an Irish cast and on-stage band playing gipsy music for a subtle prick at British sensibilities.
Add a hotel to our Liola theatre breaks to spend the night in style, and finish a satisfying evening of comedy with a comfortable night in the middle of theatreland. You can’t go wrong without our hand-picked list of hotels, and our Liola theatre breaks will make for an evening to remember!
