Guys and Dolls

Guys and Dolls Theatre breaks

About the show

Guys and Dolls returns to London’s West End in December 2015. A Guys and Dolls theatre break gives you the chance to see this much loved classic musical by Frank Loesser and Abe Burrows in the wonderful Savoy Theatre. It’s the story of New York’s most infamous dice game organiser Nathan Detroit, who, hoping for a big pay day, challenges notorious gambler Sky Masterson to a bet he is sure he’ll win. Sky has the seemingly impossible task of taking Sarah Brown, the prudish mission girl, to dinner in Havana, Cuba. Nathan has his own relationship situation though, being engaged for 14 years to Adelaide, who is getting tired of waiting for a wedding. With bets and love being at odds, the characters have to question their priorities and do the right thing.

What to expect from Guys and Dolls

With classic numbers such as `Luck be a Lady’, `I’ve never been in love before’ and `Sit down you’re rocking the boat’, with stage set and costume from 1940’s Times Square in New York, Guys and Dolls has been an audience favourite since it first hit the stage in 1951. With a cast of characters that have become legends in the musical theatre world, it has often been described as the perfect musical comedy. With a Guys and Dolls theatre break you’ll be toe tapping your way through the show and all the way back to your hotel, chosen from the great range that we have on our website. Why not take the worry out of travelling into London too by booking rail tickets with us. We can get some great savings leaving pounds in your pocket; just don’t get into a game with Nathan Detroit!

Interesting facts about Guys and Dolls

The show was based on the short stories of Damon Runyon, `The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown’ and `Blood Pressure’ and borrows characters from `Pick the Winner’ amongst other stories too.

Guys and Dolls was chosen as the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1951 but because of writer Abe Burrows’ troubles with the `House Un-American Activities Committee’ the selection was vetoed and no prize was awarded that year.
