Buckingham Palace was built in 1705 for the Duke of Buckingham. It is the working headquarters of the Monarchy, where the Queen carries out her official and ceremonial duties as Head of State. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh live in the private apartments to the north side of the palace.
The Changing of the Guard ceremony is certainly something to witness. At 11:30am every day you can watch as the new guard makes his way to palace from the Wellington Barracks along with a marching band to complete the change. The ceremony lasts about 45 minutes.
