• At the time, rumours of why The Kinks were banned from America abounded, including some of their rowdy conduct on stage. Today it’s generally thought it was down to a failure to pay their union dues!
• One early lead vocalist for The Kinks, albeit briefly, was Rod Stewart, who attended the same secondary school as Ray and Dave Davies.
• For his services to music, Ray Davies was given a CBE in 2004.
Book Monday-Thursday for heavily discounted gold tickets. On Fridays and Saturdays, the best way to get a cheap theatre break is to go for central Balcony, though keep away from row A due to safety rails, and be aware that leg room isn’t great. Budget Balcony seats have quite a shallow slope for Sunny Afternoon, so it’s not quite as dizzying a height as in some other theatres.
