Award winning Sir Kenneth Branagh has set up a new theatre company to stage a season of plays at London’s Garrick Theatre this autumn. Other plays in the season include Harlequinade, The Painkiller, Romeo and Juliet and The Entertainer. In The Winter's Tale Judi Dench and Kenneth Branagh will star as Paulina and Leontes respectively.

The Winter’s Tale tells the story of Polixenes, King of Bohemia, who has been away at the court of his childhood friend Leontes, King of Sicilia, and his wife, Queen Hermione. Leontes believes that his heavily pregnant wife has been having an affair with his friend. Informed of a plot to poison him, Polixenes he returns to Bohemia. After his wife has died in prison, Leontes has Hermione's newly born daughter left on a desert shore on the coast of Bohemia. An old shepherd and his clownish son find the baby, bring her up as a member of their family and name her Perdita. Sixteen years later and she is being courted by a shepherd who is not what he says he is. Then the full truth is revealed.
