Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown follows Pepa Marcos, a voice-over actress, who begins to unravel the secrets and lies surrounding her married lover, Ivan. With the assistance, hindrance and worldly advice of a Mambo-loving taxi driver, turned philosopher, Pepa begins to chase down the secrets and expose the lies. However, just as Pepa is finding more mysteries and fewer certainties at every turn, her best friend, Candela, arrives with a distressing revelation. The messy tangles of interwoven relationships give rise to a thrilling plot line with both dark undertones and hilarious dialogue. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown theatre breaks really do have it all.
The unique style of this musical is created partly from Pedro Almodvar’s original film version of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, partly from the skill of the writers David Yazbek and Jeffrey Lane (also behind Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), and partly from the “exciting and original” (New York Times) director, Bartlett Sher. As clichéd as it is, the show will make you laugh and it will make you cry; the comedy and light hearted scenes are contrasted with darker emotional scenes, which together explore the complexity of modern relationships and the position, experiences and representations of women in 20th Century Spain.

"This is an absolute joy of an evening", ****, Dominic Cavendish, The Telegraph
"Ticklish caricatures and, ultimately, a heart very much in the right place", ****, Quentin Letts, Daily Mail
"Greig's superb timing and her matchless ability to flicker between comic absurdity and desolate melancholy and to show the perilous closeness of shaking with laughter and shivering with tears are tremendous assets for a piece that proves there's no incongruity between frenetic farce and the expression through song of the fraught emotions that fuel it.", ****, Paul Taylor, The Independent
We’ve no discounts quite yet for Woman on the Verge of a
Nervous Breakdown, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get some cheap theatre
breaks to see it! The Upper Circle will be the cheapest and it’s a notoriously
high and steep one, so be careful if you’re not good with heights. Try and stay
central for the best views, as the curvature can give you a poor view of the
stage at the ends of rows.
