In a show that will interest theatre-goers and football fans alike, the hit film Bend it like Beckham will be making its West End debut in May 2015 at the Phoenix Theatre. The production brings to the stage the story of Jess’ struggle to pursue her beloved football alongside her Sikh religion and Indian family’s expectations. As opportunities for her football career to develop arise, how will Jess make the choice between her passion and her family?
Befriending fellow football fan Jules along the way, Jess gains both strength and companionship, however an unwelcome rivalry begins to develop. Bend it like Beckham tells this vibrant tale through uplifting musical comedy-drama, which is guaranteed to entertain fans both old and new.
Author Gurinder Chadha has collaborated with screen writer/director Paul Mayeda Burges in order to reprise the characters from the hit film that originally brought actresses Kiera Knightley and Parminder Nagra to the spotlight. The score for the production has been written by Howard Goodall (Blackadder, Red Dwarf), so the show promises fantastic music alongside a hefty dash of comedy and characters that are both relatable and endearing.
