Hedwig and the Angry Inch is rumoured to be the next big Broadway transfer to the West End with the show’s writer John Cameron Mitchell announcing at the 2015 Tony Awards that he was looking for the right lead actor.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about a fictional band fronted by a “genderqueer” East German singer called Hedwig. Formerly Hansel Schimdt, he takes his mother’s name and passport after a botched sex change operation which was performed to allow him to marry an American soldier and escape the communist country. On their first wedding anniversary in Junction City, Kansas, Hedwig’s husband leaves her for a man and she hears the news that the Berlin Wall has fallen. Realising that her sacrifice was for nothing Hedwig creates a more glamorous version of herself and forms a rock band, The Angry Inch.
With music steeped in the androgynous style of 1970s Glam Rock of Marc Bolan and David Bowie as well as that of John Lennon, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, Hedwig and the Angry Inch theatre breaks are perfect for those who love the high camp and hard rock of the Rocky Horror Show. Definitely not a show for the children, the humour is as dark as the tale it tells and the show has an edge to it, making it dangerous and exciting. Hedwig and the Angry Inch tickets, combined with one of our specially selected Central London hotels makes a great trip to London’s West End, and you could also save up to 60% off your rail tickets if you book with us too.
