Living in a run-down, subsiding house with a parrot and a batty suspicion of the activities of her neighbours, Mrs Wilberforce is sweet, well-meaning, and has long ago run out her welcome with the local constabulary after a series of wild goose chases. Then enters a cohort of surprisingly sinister string musicians who rent out the rooms in her house but the characters “Major” Courtney, Harry Robinson, Louis Harvey, “One-Round” Lawson and their leader, “Professor” Marcus are not string musicians and are in fact, hardened career criminals who plan to rob the bank next door through Mrs Wilberforce’s dilapidated basement.
