A quick pick of what’s hot in the TicketTree.com office
Ghost Stories: back
from the dead

After announcing an early closure just a few short months
ago, Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson’s utterly terrifying Ghost Stories has been extended at the Duke of York’s theatre for
another month. Now running until July 16th, the show had originally
brought its run back to June 19th, much to our dismay at TicketTree.
Clearly most of the West End shared our disappointment –
that or stunts like nailing competition winners in a coffin and leaving them in
the Duke of York all night back in May have paid off. It’s wonderful to have
Ghost Stories that little bit longer, but we’re very much looking forward to R
C Sherriff’s Journey’s End which
follows it, opening July 19th. The tense WWI drama will be directed
by David Grindley, who has taken the show all over the country, although the
West End cast has not yet been confirmed.
Northern soul: musical
extensions
Musical titans Billy Elliot and Blood Brothers have
announced they will extend their runs until late 2012, good news for those with
a penchant for gritty northern working class musical drama. As the TicketTree
office is staffed almost entirely by northerners in the centre of Hull, there’s
nowt we’d like more than to go t’London in’t new year.
And continuing the northern theme, Cameron Mackintosh’s Betty Blue Eyes is now on until late
January. Based on A Private Function
by arch-Yorkshireman Alan Bennett, it’s definitely the musical to see if you’d
rather watch a pig sing than relive the miners’ strike.
The Ladykillers at the
West End
Finally, office favourite Graham Linehan, whose writing
credits include Father Ted and The IT Crowd (amongst many, many
others), is adapting The Ladykillers
for the Gielgud Theatre, opening December 7th. Linehan fans might
remember this as his “funniest film ever” during More4’s Graham Linehan night
over Christmas. The black comedy involves a group of criminals who plan a
robbery under the cover of a house owned by an eccentric old lady. With a cast
including extremely well-known television actors such as Peter Capaldi and Ben
Miller, this is sure to sell out quickly.
Deal of the week
Dirty Dancing
packages are selling out fast as the production draws to a close, but we still
have very well-priced tickets and hotels for Friday and Saturday nights! Book
now before tickets begin to dry up and prices rise, and don’t forget that we’re
on the phones 8.30-19.30 weekdays and 10.30-16.30 weekends if you’d like to try
and get something cheaper than what we’ve got online.
