  • Branagh has directed and played several characters previously made famous by Olivier both on stage and screen, from Henry V to his 2007 remake of Sleuth and even played the great man himself in the 2011 film, `My Week with Marilyn’.
  • He has recently been rumoured to have been approached to take over as Artistic Director of The National Theatre, which would again be emulating his hero, the theatre’s first Artistic Director back in 1963.
  • The Entertainer has graced London stages several times since the original 1957 Royal Court production which returned to the Place Theatre after a nationwide tour. The role of Archie Rice being performed by Max Wall at Greenwich in 1974, Peter Bowles at the Shaftesbury in 1986 and Robert Lindsay (currently at the Savoy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) at the Old Vic in 2007
